I started this blog a couple of years ago on Blogger when Mom’s memory problems started to become pronounced. It was an outlet for me. Now, it’s a way of chronicling
Seven or eight years ago, I noticed that she was forgetting arrangements that she had made earlier in the day, forgetting appointments that had been discussed for weeks, forgetting where she put things. She refused to believe that there was a problem with her memory.
She would fall back on the “I’ve always been forgetful” and at first it was just frustrating or made me angry. It became more and more apparent, though, that there was a problem and that problem was getting slowly but surely worse. Increasingly, I’ve noticed strange twists to her logic and problem-solving.
When she was finally tested early in the winter of 2009, I knew pretty well what the results would be.
Mom has Alzheimer’s.

My mother has no memories of being there, as she left as a baby. But we did visit when we were in the UK in 1962.
